I’ve always believed that our city’s flag should serve as a powerful symbol of who we are and what we stand for. However, our current flag falls short capturing the essence of our community. It lacks depth of meaning and connection to our history that we deserve. But rather than dwell on it shortcomings, let’s see this as an opportunity for growth and renewal.
Together, we have the chance to redefine what it means to be a citizen of Lehi. By embracing our past while looking boldly towards the future, we can create a flag that truly reflects the spirit of our city. Let’s draw inspiration from the iconic landmarks that dot our landscape, but let’s also infuse our design with the stories and aspirations of our residents.
I’m excited to announce that we’ll be embarking on a journey of rediscovery and creativity as we work towards a new flag for Lehi. This isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about reclaiming our identity and reaffirming our sense of community. So, let’s roll up our sleeves, tap into our collective imagination, and show the world what Lehi is made of. Together, we can craft a flag that inspires pride and unity for generations to come.
– Mayor Mark Johnson
The Lehi City Flag Design Contest is an opportunity for residents and designers alike to play a pivotal role in shaping the identity of our beloved city. Our current flag is inspired by the 2015 Lehi logo and iconic local architecture. A new design is a chance to bridge the gap between tradition and innovation. By reimagining our flag, we aim to create a symbolic thread that seamlessly connects our heritage with our aspirations, forging a visual emblem that resonates with pride and unity among Lehi residents.
It is now the first public voting period. We ask that you rank your top 4 flag designs (1 being your first choice). The public voting period is from Tuesday, July 23 to Tuesday, August 6 at 11:59 p.m. For reference see the designs below. Once the public ranking window closes, the top four designs will be chosen. At that time, we will work with vexillologists, artists, and internal graphic designers to make any necessary changes to the designs to enhance their quality and ensure they truly reflect the essence of Lehi.

To ensure the success of the Lehi City Flag Design Contest, it’s essential to adhere to a set of guidelines that uphold the principles of good flag design. We are adopting key principles from renown vexillogist and author Ted Kaye’s, who is closely associated with the North American Vexillological Association (NAVA). Together, Kaye’s and NAVA have created standards aimed at elevating flags to new heights of excellence. Principles the flag design should follow:
These principles serve as the foundation for creating a flag that not only captures the spirit of Lehi but also resonates with its residents. Additionally, designs should strive for clarity and memorability, ensuring that the flag remains recognizable from a distance and stands out among others.
Lehi is thrilled to announce its Flag Design Contest, inviting the community to showcase their creativity and pride in the city through a new flag design. The submission window will open on April 1 at 8:00 a.m. and will remain open until May 31 at 11:59 p.m., giving ample time for participants to craft their submissions. A flag design committee, comprised of Lehi residents, local business leaders, educators, members of the Chamber of Commerce, the Lehi Arts Council, flag enthusiasts, and city employees, will diligently review all entries. Additionally, the public will have the opportunity to rate finalists over the summer, with the ultimate decision resting with the Mayor and City Council. The city will work with vexillologists, artists, and internal graphic designers to make any necessary changes to the designs to enhance their quality and ensure they truly reflect the essence of Lehi. The selected design will be awarded a prize of $1500, recognizing the talent and contribution of the winning designer.
